ApcoBuild SureSeal + ApcoBuild Seal N Safe
  • The existing waterproofing system to be dismantled followed with surface preparation as below.
  • Clean the surface free of dirt, dust, laitance, etc and inspect for cracks and check for the soundness of concrete to be waterproofed.
  • Grout as required with cement slurry containing non-shrink compound and for any voids seen resurface with PMM using ApcoBuild Seal 'N' Safe under the instructions from structural engineers.
The junction of the walls and the slab is rounded using cement mortar of 1:3 admixed with ApcoBuild Seal 'N' Safe @ 10% of the weight of cement.
  • The openings around the rainwater pipes are packed with ApcoBuild Seal N Safe modified mortar in the ratio of 1:1:4 by volume (SNS: Cement: Sand) and well compacted & finished.
  • After the mortar has set, ApcoBuild SureSeal or equivalent (two-component polymer modified cementitious coating) should be applied around the pipes in two coats.
  • The concrete surface is thoroughly saturated with water. Two coats of ApcoBuild SureSeal (two-component polymer modified cementitious coating) is applied on the clean and saturated surface at a coverage of 6-7 sft per kg in two coats giving an average thickness of 1-1.5mm. The second coat is applied after 6-8 hours of drying of the first coat.
  • The coating is extended upto the 300mm height along the parapet wall. In the event of the coating being discontinued, resumption of the coating should be done by providing an overlap of 50 mm on the old layer.
  • For building up the thickness of coating and enhancing the mechanical properties, lay a dimensionally stabilized non-woven fabric on the first coat when it is in tacky condition as a sandwich layer prior to second coat.
  • Apply the second coat of the waterproof membrane & while it is still tacky, place 10-15 mm thick cement mortar (1:3) incorporating ApcoBuild Hydrotite IWC @ 200 ml per 50 Kg bag of cement and mild cure for a minimum of 3 days. This is required to prevent damage/puncture to the membrane during subsequent works.
  • To get a suitable gradient towards the rain water pipes, lay Brickbat Coba on the screed protecting the waterproof cementitious membrane. Addition of ApcoBuild Hydrotite IWC in the brick joint mortar (1:4) is recommended.
  • After the mortar in the joint sets, water is ponded on the brickbats for a minimum of 3-4 days to ensure the soundness of the brickbats. The water is then removed and cement mortar (1:3) admixed with ApcoBuild Hydrotite IWC - integral waterproofing compound @ of 200 ml per 50 kg cement is laid to a thickness of 15mm maintaining slopes towards the rain water pipe and finished making a checkered pattern on the wet mortar.
As an alternate to Brickbat coba after the cement mortar screed on the waterproofing membrane is well cured, screed concrete of1:2:4 (by volume) admixed with ApcoBuild Hydrotite IWC (integral waterproofing compound )@ 200 ml per 50 kg cement. When the concrete is still wet, a checkered pattern is created to prevent cracking of the top concrete.


  • Dismantling of existing waterproofing/Brick Bat Coba should be done with minimum force in angular direction so that the mother concrete should not be damaged.
  • In case of ApcoBuild Sure Seal preparation, do not dilute with water nor do add any cement or powder.Always add powder to liquid and never add liquid in powder & maintain the mix ratio as recommended
  • Allow 1st coat to dry completely for 6 – 8 hrs before applying 2nd coat.
  • Allow the coating to dry completely for 3 days after 2nd coat for the complete air curing.
Protect the coating with proper mortar screed for best performance over the years.
